What is a Covenant

A covenant according to Strongs comes from the word bĕriyth (1285) which means: covenant, alliance, pledge, treaty, alliance, constitution. In simple terms a covenant is a promise from God. It is a binding agreement in legal terms. The word bĕriyth comes from a root word that means “to cut”. The custom at the time was for cutting or dividing animals into two parts with the two parties or people walking between the two parts in a “figure 8” fashion. The suggestion behind this is if one of the parties breaks his covenant he is in essence saying “may I

Figures of Speach in the Bible

Chuck Missler has documented over 180 figures of speech used in the Bible in his book: Cosmic Codes. Figures of speech can be used to clarify and illustrate the literal meaning of the text. An example would be the many references of God in the Bible as “Father”. God is the all powerful creator of the universe, but to use the term “Father” implies a relationship. God is not our physical father, but it’s being used as a metaphor as to how we can look to God. Metaphor: a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is

Evolution Fallacies

There are many fallacies that are used by evolutionists and theistic evolutionists. In general conversation friends and acquaintances generally use the same arguments that they hear from TV documentaries, movies and articles. They are not scientists themselves. Some common fallacies they use are: Humor or Ridicule This is where a sly comment or insult distracts from the argument. Commonly ridiculing a young earth creation position based in the Bible is not an argument or a reasoned response. This is also an Ad Hominem which is an argument directed at the person, not the claim. This generally leads into Appeal

Matthew

Delimma Jesus Uses

To start at the beginning, God identifies himself to Moses in Exodus 3:14. 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you God identifies himself as “I AM”. In John 8:58 (KJV) 58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. In this premise, Jesus began to exist at a particular time. He was about 30 when he started ministry being born of a virgin, Mary and was known in the

Logic in the Bible

To look at this question we have to look at where the idea of allegorizing scripture starts. This is the book of Genesis. Turning Genesis into allegory is the start down the path of turning other parts of the Bible that seem difficult to allegory. The issues brought up in Genesis such as God creating the universe in 6 days are not only in Genesis but it’s mentioned all through the entire Bible, New and Old Testaments. A Hypothetical Syllogism is an if-then statement. If this, then that. If the Bible is the Word of God, then it is

Who are the Palastinians

Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 AD and around 132 the Roman’s rebuilt it as a pagan city. As they started a temple to Jupiter on Temple Mount, there was a Jewish uprising. This is known as the Bar Kochba revolt which was led by Simon Bar Kochba. Many at the time considered him to be the Messiah as the Jews were looking for a warrior Messiah who would free them from the bonds of Rome. Although the revolt was successful at the start, Rome brought in more legions and it was crushed in 135. The land of “Palestine” was

First 2 days in Jerusalem

So far it’s been an amazing time in Israel.  The first thing that people get wrong is that Jerusalem is not a desert.  It’s surrounded by hills and valleys.  It’s rocky hills, lots of trees, vineyards and grass.  A lot of people get their impression of Jerusalem by watching the movie Kingdom of Heaven.  I don’t think the producers of that show actually looked at the landscape since they filmed it in Morocco.  Don’t believe what you see on the movies. We spent the last two days going through the Old Town of Jerusalem on our own and winging
