We spent March 13 cleaning and painting 2 bomb shelters in Kiryat Shmona near the Lebenon border. The reality of the people living in this town is that there are over one hundred thousand rockets only kilometers away in Lebanon that Hezbollah is awaiting the order to launch. These are Kassam rockets that are filled with shrapnel intended to inflect terror and damage, not strategic military strikes.
Our group cleaned, painted and prayed that the shelters will not have to be used by the local residents.
Imagine that your small town was just a few kilometers away from a group that wanted it destroyed, but America, the UN and EU are boycotting your country and preventing your defense forces from neutralizing the terrorist group that threatens you? Despite this, the residents of Northern Israel have always been in good cheer when visiting their shops and grateful that westerners are willing to come and do a small part to help.
The shelters are very small with fold out beds, washrooms and air vents. There are hundreds of shelters in this town and many residential homes have a bomb shelter built in.
